This tourmaline is a stunning deep magenta colored liddicoatite specimen from the Ankadilava mine in Madagascar. Mined in November 2006. Liddicoatite is a calcium rich analogue of elbaite. This crystal has absolutely unbelievable color and no damage. I purchased this crystal at the 2007 Munich Gem and Mineral Show from an Italian dealer. This is truly a fine single crystal liddicoatite tourmaline.
I can honestly say that this liddicoatite crystal has some of the finest and richest red color I have ever seen. This is an absolutely amazing liddicoatite specimen.

This is an exceptional example from the greatest single tourmaline discovery of all time. Internationally known as "bamburrio" or jackpot! On Good Friday 1978 after six months of digging at the Jonas Mine (Itatiaia) a wonderful discovery was made. Barbosa discovered a 3x3x2.5 meter pocket that produced more than 200 kg of cranberry and deep magenta facet grade tourmalines. Some of the deep red elbaite crystals measured more than 1 meter long and 40 cm in diameter. In total the discovery produced more than 3.6 tons of material. This specimen is a great representation of the deep rubellite color and large crystal size from the Jonas Mine.
